Rosetta McLean Park
Submitted by Amber_Whitman on Mon, 2008-07-07 09:59Now that it is getting closer to my marriage, I am starting to feel the pressure. It is amazing how much really goes into getting married. We originally thought we would be getting pictures of our wedding party somewhere close to home. However, recently while driving with a friend my fiancee was taken to a beautiful park called Rosetta Mclean. It is near the bluffs. He came home raving about this park and how beautiful it was. I have to say, I was not really impressed at the time. Finally, after much prodding we walked up there one weekend because we live fairly close. I was truly amazed!
Tis the Season To Reconnect
Submitted by Amber_Whitman on Thu, 2007-12-13 09:27Being the relationship advice columnist, I thought I would share something along those lines with you. I have always believed that Christmas and the holidays bring out the love and longing in all our lives. Well this Christmas seems to be bringing that message home in my family. Not only have I recently become closer to my mother...but I also got to see my nephew. I have not seen him since he was very little. Then recently while talking to my mom...she mentioned that my niece had come for a visit. She has not been around for many years either.
Family Re-union
Submitted by Amber_Whitman on Tue, 2007-10-23 08:40This weekend we went to visit my mother. I rarely see her due to certain circumstances. We have had a rocky relationship to say the least, but I still love her...she's my mother. My father is once again out of the picture which makes talking to her so much easier and nicer. I am hoping that this time she has the common sense to stay on her own. I was very surprised when I saw her this time. I know that she is getting older and that she is losing her strength and verve but I am really worried about her. My fiancee helped to emtpy some planters on her balcony.
Thanksgiving- In Good Times and Bad
Submitted by Amber_Whitman on Tue, 2007-10-09 12:06Yesterday was Thanksgiving Day. It is the norm to have holidays with my father-in-law because he is alone...however this year I thought I would invite my mother...who due to circumstances is alone as well. Unfortunately, she was not up to getting out. For some reason I was up early ...around 8:00a.m. Since I was making dinner this year, I had prepared some things the night before which I would highly recommend. I had peeled the potatoes and yams and put them in the fridge. We decided to go with a pre-stuffed turkey again this year...they are so much easier.
Tasting Dating
Submitted by Amber_Whitman on Thu, 2007-09-27 07:49There is a new dating style emerging in Toronto. It is called Tasting Dating and takes speed dating to a more taste tantalizing level involving sixteen men and sixteen women. Singles gather for a complete meal at one of Toronto’s many eateries and move from table to table and single to single getting to know each other. If you are not immediately interested in the other person you at least have a conversation starter with the food says Meredith Hopper of Fastlife.ca.
Our Love Story
Submitted by Amber_Whitman on Thu, 2007-09-13 08:28This is a piece I wrote many years ago...when I first starting writing...with the input of my boyfriend...I thought it would be a good fit for LoveinToronto...I hope you all enjoy it?
Chapter 1
He was hard at work...intently studying the computer screen, trying to figure out what the hell had gone wrong with this particular program.
Quietly she walked up behind him. And very softly...placed her hands on his shoulder. Bending forward slightly, she kissed the side of his neck and whispered in his ear,” Don’t work to hard, love."
The Fight Is Love
Submitted by Amber_Whitman on Thu, 2007-09-13 08:16I fight each day for love.
I get up each morning for the love of my family.
I have a man with whom I have been for many years.
I fight each day for him.
I have a young son, who I love more than life itself.
I fight each day for him.
I fight for the good days, without pain.
I fight for the bright sunny days.
I fight for peace in this world one day.
I fight because I have to for my family.
Sacred Heart
Submitted by Amber_Whitman on Thu, 2007-09-13 08:13Up the hill, in a box you will find my sacred heart.
It will be under a sycamore tree.
Open the box if you will.
However you can not touch it.
It has bled too many times.
It is frail and weak now.
My sacred heart lies within.
Open the lid and you will see.
A heart torn to pieces.
When will my sacred heart be free.
The day you learn to love me.
