Thanksgiving- In Good Times and Bad
Yesterday was Thanksgiving Day. It is the norm to have holidays with my father-in-law because he is alone...however this year I thought I would invite my mother...who due to circumstances is alone as well. Unfortunately, she was not up to getting out. For some reason I was up early ...around 8:00a.m. Since I was making dinner this year, I had prepared some things the night before which I would highly recommend. I had peeled the potatoes and yams and put them in the fridge. We decided to go with a pre-stuffed turkey again this year...they are so much easier. They go from freezer to oven.
All that was left was the gravy, some more veggies, cranberry sauce and crescent rolls. Not everything went smoothly. I had frozen the cresent rolls and unfortunately upon thawing they lose thier rollability. I found myself fighting to make them into some form of what they should look like! It worked out in the end. It was so hot that I needed to put on the air conditioner. Of course it had to be summer like temperatures when I am cooking Thanksgiving dinner making my kitchen feel like the pits of hell...lol. When dinner was ready...everyone decided to eat outside...so everything had to be put into some sort of bowl, container etc...to get all the goodies outside...along with the tableware, glassware, cutlery...eeekkk. Of course I had forgotten the green beans and the cranberry sauce!
Once outside the dinner was delicious and everyone throughly enjoyed it, in between swatting away the dreaded wasps circling the table and food. I of course picked the seat directly in the sun so I was baking while trying to eat. When asked if I would like to trade seats with my finacee...of course my answer was "No...that's okay, I'm fine." I really need to know when to give in ...and just take the damn seat! After dinner the boys went looking for dessert and I did the mound of dishes, all the while thinking...geez some help would be nice! We had cake and ice cream when they returned. After some reminiscing we sent my father-in-law off with some leftovers. Another Thanksgiving survived and enjoyed...? Yeah...and what is Thanksgiving without leftovers!
