Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival is North America's largest documentary festival. Experience the enchantment of Nights of Fire, magically created by Cie Carabosse, France's acclaimed fire art troupe in Toronto for their North American premiere. Fuel the flames of your imagination as you wander among intricate sculptures of metal, clay and fire that will transform Nathan Phillips Square into a wonderland of warmth and light.

The gentle illumination of the entire square will unfold over three hours as clay pots are individually lit until 1500 burn in unison, radiating heat and reflective beauty across the urban landscape.Haunting musical performances will accompany the fire installation, delicately enhancing the magic and wonder of the flames.

During the past few months, I’ve shouted at you, letting y’all know what shows to see, where, and when. Over the weekend, the thought dawned on me that perhaps my particular- and oft peculiar- taste is not exactly in sync with LoveInToronto.com’s general readership, nor should it be. Music is the universal language, but it is also deeply personal and highly individual. With that logic in mind, I present to you my primer on how to find out about shows and buy tickets for anything and everything that our multicultural, cosmopolitan metropolis has to offer.

You might be wondering where I’ve gone on dates. You might be thinking my recent disappearance from the column has meant that I was swooped up, up and away, to the most exotic location, or in a hot air balloon for two, or a helicopter ride, or even on a weekend getaway to somewhere with sand, and sun, and mojitos.

I wish.

To my fans, thank you for the emails, but no, I have not eloped. I am not secretly pregnant and overcome with sudden event planning stresses for my secret wedding to my billionaire husband, who is the prince of some remote island off the coast of somewhere too elite to discuss. And I have not finally been convinced by the man of my dreams that he and I should go somewhere… anywhere… and explore the obvious chemistry between us.

Anyone who knows me well knows that I love me some scary and if I had my way this Halloween I’d be starring in a horror movie. It being the season of spooky and all I was compelled recently to watch an old movie of my own I made in school. Sadly I found it more hilarious than scary but it did get me thinking…why do I love it so? And why is being scared so damn good? Thanks in part to a wise and close Therapist compari of mine it appears the answer is actually quite simple…adrenaline. There is nothing like the rush of adrenaline pumping through your body and mind when you feel like you’re about to get the scare of a lifetime or having just had one. It’s electric, ebullient and what’s more is that its effects can cause quite the stir in…the coffin. I’ll let you interpret that as you may but let’s just say I’m not only referring to Dracula here.
